Wasp report August 2010

Wet, cloudy and cool weather – the coolest August since 1993 – undoubtedly has had an effect on reported general wasp activity and particularly on reports of stinging incidents.

It has generally been the quietest August since we began reporting on wasp activity, and it is hard not to conclude that the overall wasp population will have been adversely affected by the weather this year, from the very cold start to the year to the mixed weather through Spring and early Summer.

However it is still important to take care if your garden is subject to visitations by your local wasp community. Make sure your children and pets are safe by following the advice in the Wasp Info tab “How to avoid a wasp sting”.
