July was a nicer month for our wasps, lower than average rainfall and just about average sunshine, thank you very much from them.
The wasp colonies are now well established and numbers of occupants are rising to their maximum – this is around 2,000 to 3,000 for a small/average nest, and up to 6,000 wasps in a large colony.
Whilst it is never a good idea to get too close to a wasps’ nest, as they will vigorously defend their nests against perceived threat, at this time of year it is dangerous to say the least.
Wasps can fly faster than we can run.
If you come across a nest, get and stay well away from it, never, ever, try and deal with a wasps’ nest on your own.
