Wasp Watch May 2014 – Vampire Wasps

A gentleman from Wiltshire has written to the Guardian wondering if there are such things as Vampire Wasps, having been “bitten” (rather than stung) by ordinary looking wasps.

May was another warmer than average month. There were some spells of dry and warm weather for many parts of the country, but these were interspersed with more unsettled conditions bringing cloud and rain. There were some unusually strong winds and the latter part of the month was less settled, often overcast, and with widespread rainfall.
